Ich bin Professor für das Lehrgebiet Robotik und Grundlagen der Informatik an der FH Aachen im Fachbereich Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnologie.
My research focusses on the field of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Robotics. Cognitive Robotics investigates how an autonomous system (robot) can be enabled to perform actions in an intelligent way. I have a.o. investigated robot programming languages which, for instance, allow for decision-theoretic planning. Besides this so-called high-level control of an autonomous robot, I am also interested in solving basic robotic problems such as localisation or navigation. Moreover, applying the high-level control concepts to agent systems is also an area of interest that I have. An intriguing application of this field is for Game AI.
I studied computer science at RWTH Aachen University, where I also received my PhD in 2008 at the Knowledge-Based Systems Group under the supervision of Prof. Lakemeyer. From 2001 and 2008 I was the head of the RoboCup team AllemaniACs, which participated in several RoboCup leagues. In 2009, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, I visited the Robotics and Agents Research Lab at the University of Cape Town (UCT) for two years. There I was member of the RoboCup team Zadeat, which took part in the standard platform league with the humanoid robot platform Nao. The Zadeat team was a joint project between the University of Cape Town, RWTH Aachen University and the Technical University of Graz. During my time in Cape Town, I was also engaged in RoboCup Junior activities together with Gerald Steinbauer from Graz University and Anet Potgieter and Stephen Marais from UCT.
